TFMU Testimonial - @FluffyLiz

We're so excited to post today's testimonial from Liz. For me (MsKathy), meeting Liz was such a delight, and I somehow get lucky enough to end up sharing at least a drink or meal with her each year. Thank you, Liz, for always traveling so far to be with us - we can say without a doubt that not only do you fit in, but you're far from inadequately qualified to be there!

My first TFMU was Chicago in 2013.  It was a major venture for me, both in terms of distance and cost, as I would be flying from the UK.  I was also anxious about not knowing anyone, wondering if I would struggle to fit in.  I was only on my second story, and felt pretty inadequate when I saw the list of all the amazing writers who were going to be there.  At the same time, I was dying to meet these women who I admired so much.  So, with my fan-girl credentials well and truly to the fore, I headed to the Windy City intent on enjoying myself.

And, oh man, did I enjoy myself!  I have to say right here and now, I met some of the most amazing women it’s been my pleasure to encounter in my sixty years.  Such extraordinary talent, all in one place was something to behold, and I was in heaven.  I did it again last year, in Nashville, and Philadelphia will be my third TFMU – and I’m counting the bloody days.

And it’s not just about the social side of things – although that’s a big part.  I love the ‘Inside the Writers’ Studio’ session, where we get to hear from some great authors and ask them about their art. I’ve now met so many of my TwiFic heroines – Shay Savage, Planet Blue, SheViking, Katinki, Livie79, Ooza and many more fantastic authors – and this year I’m beside myself with excitement to meet Edward’s Eternal and Shadow Masen, who is the author of my current absolute favourite WIP, Come Back Tomorrow.

It’s expensive for me, especially as I have to have a room to myself (sorry, I can’t do sharing – I’m not even that keen on sharing a room with a bloke I’m shagging!) but as long as I can keep finding the money, and the brilliant women who put so much time and effort into organising it continue to do it, I’m gonna be there.

Roll on 25 June!

TFMU Testimonial - Planetblue / @planetbluefic

Today's testimonial is from PlanetBlue!

I remember my husband asking me when I first told him I was attending TFMU if we were all going to stand around dressed as vampires. Like him, I didn't know what to expect. I was nervous, anxious, unsure...

What I found was so much better than anything I could've conjured up.

I found myself surrounded by a group of people that enjoyed the same thing as me. People that read stories I'd fallen in love with. Passionate women that wanted to talk about it like I did.

I'd never felt so embraced by people I didn't know and quickly my 'not knowing anyone' changed - I've made long-term friendships from these events, weekends that truly are nothing but fun. Most of the people I've talked to say the same thing: going to TFMU makes you feel like you know everyone already; like there's a secret we all share that makes us instant friends.

Not a writer? That's fine! New to fanfic? That's fine too! The workshops and author panels really dive into some of your favorites, and you'll be adding to your TBR list or learning new tricks for your own writing. There's also the reception party and secondary event (depending on city) to look forward to at night!

It's really quite an amazing experience.

We couldn't agree more with what Bluie said, and we can't wait to squish the stuffin' out of her soon.

I was just thinking, TFMU is kind of like a playgroup for grownups. No, no, dirty birds, not *that* kind of playgroup. ;)

We can't wait to see YOU there in June! Don't forget to pay your dues if you haven't already. You definitely don't want to miss a spot.

TFMU 2014 Testimonial - @jeaboo1

Have you been wondering what it's like to attend a TwiFic MeetUp? Well, we asked some previous attendees to give us their feedback and words so you can get a little idea about what sort of fun we have.

Jeannie, @jeaboo1 on twitter, had this to say about her time with us in Nashville:

When I think back at my TMFU experience all I can think is how great it was. I attended the meetup in Nashville. The hotel was great. I meet so many authors that I enjoy to read so much. The group workshops were very informative. From being taught how to save fics in pdf's or kindle formats and making banners. Then the panel of authors. They were probably the best part. Getting to hear authors discuss the process of writing fics to answering question that you've been dying to know. Also the word moist is probably the most hated word in the fandom!
Going to a meetup has made it so I can meet all of the lovely ladies I have made friends with over Twitter and on Facebook and have a weekend where you do not need to be in your fandom closet.

We welcome you all out of the closet, and look forward to having so many adventures in Philly! If you're still on the fence about going, there are more testimonials and event information coming up.

Friendly reminder that you're down to just a handful of weeks left to pay your dues and attend!

If you are wondering what goes on at TwiFic Meet Up, let us enlighten you.  Here is a little back story to begin.  Four years ago, a group of fandom friends said they would like to have a get together where we could talk fic, meet authors, and hang with our internet friends.  A few people said they would organize it if there was enough interest. Boom!  Las Vegas was the first big TFMU. People got to go on a vacation and indulge their love of Twi Fic.  There were discussion groups, author workshops, a dominatrix, champagne, and more.  It has been held in Chicago, Nashville, and will be in Philadelphia this year.  The event itself has grown and changed (hopefully for the better) and continues to do so as we learn more after each gathering.  There are scheduled events, lunch, a party, and plenty of free time.
The event takes money and time to plan. Your registration fees allow all of these wonderful things to happen. From the conference room where we have the workshops, author's panel, and meet and greet, the audiovisual needs, a catered lunch both Friday and Saturday,  a sightseeing event that normally involves stopping for drinks, a swag bag and more.
Here is a concise version of the schedule so you can get an idea of the flow of the event.
Thursday: Arrival day with an informal gathering at hotel bar and possibly a TwiFic trivia game.
Friday: Registration to get your name badge, workshops and discussion groups, lunch, more workshops and groups. Break for the day around 3:00.  Meet and Drink, I mean Greet, party with all kinds of fun stuff in the evening until we pass out or go to bed.
Saturday: Authors panel showcase. Various authors will be featured where you can ask questions about your favorite fics. Lunch.  More authors and earlier break out for the day around 2:00 ish.  A sightseeing tour of Philly in the evening (hopefully). Any kind of shenanigans you want, as long it does not break the law.
Sunday:  Goodbye brunch.
TA DA!!
That is what you can expect at TwiFic Meet Up Philadelphia and much more.  Can't wait to see you there.

The hosting city for 2015 TFMU is PHILADELPHIA!  This city was in the lead the entire time and won by a large margin.  Remember this is the city that has a city-wide convention going on while we are there so talk to your friends and start getting your roommates together.  I also suggest purchasing your airplane tickets as soon as you can because with over 7000 coming to town, the prices will surely only go higher.
Watch the blog, twitter and facebook for more information regarding registration and hotel information.  Don't forget you can follow the blog via email.  Just subscribe and you will receive an email anytime we have a new post.

Hope to see you all in Philly!
